Türkiye test fires its newest ballistic missile: TAYFUN

Türkiye’s new short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) TAYFUN was test fired this morning.

Türkiye’s newest ballistic missile “TAYFUN” (Typhoon) developed by ROKETSAN, was test fired for the first time in Rize province this morning.

According to the information shared by DHA (Demirören News Agency) in the long-range shot from land to sea, TAYFUN successfully hit the target at a distance of 561 kilometers.

This information was later confirmed by officials who spoke to Bloomberg.

Within the scope of the TAYFUN Missile System Development Project of the Turkish Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB), missile test firing was carried out by ROKETSAN.

On the apron belonging to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense at Rize-Artvin Airport, the domestic missile TAYFUN was launched off the coast of Sinop in a long-range shot from land to sea at 06.50 o’clock.

The missile successfully hit the target at a distance of 561 kilometers in 458 seconds.

The TAYFUN Ballistic missile, developed by Roketsan, was the first missile announced by Türkiye to the world with a range longer than 300 km.

TAYFUN also took its place as Turkey's longest-range ballistic missile.

The launch vehicle of the missile is the domestically produced BMC 525-44 8X8 Tactical Wheeled Vehicle.

The missile, whose R&D name was BORA-2, was given the name TAYFUN.

In a statement, then-Minister of National Defence Nurettin Canikli said the following about the BORA-2 missile:

“Our fully national missile BORA-1 with a range of 280 km has entered the inventory. Now we are working on the BORA-2, which has more advanced technology and a longer range.

If I tell you the details, you will forget Kılıçardaroğlu, the roof candidate and the election.”

TRG-300: 120 km

J-600T YILDIRIM: 150+ km

BORA: 280+ km

ATACMS: 300 km
